CO₂ compensated"

Annex I No. 4c UCPD as amended by EU 2024/825

What does it mean?

The claim 'CO₂ compensated' is only permitted from 27 September 2026 if the compensation is carried out through verified climate protection projects and the methodology is disclosed transparently. EU Directive 2024/825 (EmpCo) prohibits misleading statements about climate neutrality that are based on insufficiently evidenced compensation. It is essential to specify the specific project (e.g. VCS project number) and the standard applied. A mere claim without evidence constitutes missing material information under § 5b UWG and is therefore inadmissible.
