„Ecodesign Regulation"
EU 2024/1781 (Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, ESPR)
What does it mean?
The European Union's Ecodesign Regulation (ESPR) (EU 2024/1781) extends the scope of the previous Ecodesign Directive and, from 27 September 2026, sets comprehensive requirements for the sustainability of products. At its core is the Digital Product Passport (DPP), which provides information on the composition, durability, repairability and recyclability of a product. The ESPR aims to increase resource efficiency, prevent waste and promote the circular economy. If these requirements are not met, this constitutes a misleading commercial practice pursuant to § 5 UWG, as the missing information represents an essential basis for consumer decision-making (§ 5b UWG).
