What does it mean?
Fairtrade is a recognised certification system that ensures compliance with social and environmental standards in the cultivation and trade of raw materials. The EmpCo Directive (EU 2024/825) tightens the requirements for substantiating environmental and social claims. For products containing Fairtrade ingredients, from 27 September 2026 onwards, the exact proportion of Fairtrade-certified ingredients must be stated as a percentage. The FLO-ID must be clearly and prominently displayed on the product or packaging to ensure traceability. Without these details, the claim "Fairtrade" may be classified as misleading pursuant to § 5 UWG.
